Maria Guadalupe "Lupe" Salinas, 78, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. Lupe was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She was retired from Laguna Madre Water District after 30 years of service. She also worked part time for CP&L and P.I.S.D for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Martin Salinas; her parents, Seferino and Josefina Cardenas Rivera; one grandson, Robert Lee Cantu; two brothers, Gonzalo Rivera and Toribio Rivera; one sister, Alicia Ramirez; and one son-in-law, Francisco Castellanos. Surviving are her children: Juan (Donaciana) Salinas, Elvia (Carlos) Rivera, Ernestina (+Francisco) Castellanos, Elvira Salinas, Benjamin (Rosa)Salinas, Jose Angel (Gloria) Salinas; grandchildren: Jennifer Castellanos, Quirino Martinez III, Francisco Castellanos Jr, Misty Banks, Johnny Salinas Jr, Monika Graham, Nelly Martinez , Judith Josett Ebel, Eddie Salinas, Lucila Salinas, Ariana Salinas, Angelina Yzaguirre, Daniela Salinas, Amelia Martinez , Bethany Martinez Benjamin Salinas Jr, Roberto Cantu Jr, and Graciela G Salinas; Great-grandchildren: Gabriella & Jaylen Torres, Nathan, Bryan, Desaray Martinez, Sofia Salinas, Faith Salinas, Carlos & Andres Telles, Dominic Ebel, Skylar Banks, Leslie Perez , and Ariani Martinez. She is also survived by four sisters: Maria Beatrice Rivera, Minerva Rodriguez, Irene “Nena” Rivera, and Andrea “Lila” Rivera; and two brothers, Jose Rivera and Jesus Rivera. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel, Texas. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
