Antonia M. Cantu, 86 of Port Isabel, Texas passed away on January 07, 2011 at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, surrounded by her loving family.
She is preceded in death by her father, Federico Martinez; Mother, Paula Barrera Martinez, Step Mother, Eloisa Martinez; husband, Juan G. Cantu, Sr.; a daughter, Dorita Cantu; a grandson, Enrique Cantu; and a great grandchild, Baby Moreno. and 2 brothers, Conrado Martinez and Domingo Martinez.
Antonia was born on May 05, 1924 in Port Isabel, Texas. Her family was one of the first pioneer families of Port Isabel. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, where she participated the in the Spanish Choir, the Guadalupana Club, the Cookie Club, Visitantes Por Cristo, a lector for the church and a Eucharistic Minister; Her favorites hobbies were gardening, sewing, eating, making tamales, posing for photos and loved all kinds of flowers.
She survived by her loving children, Mary Ida Cantu, Juan (Irene) Cantu, Jr., and Dolly Cantu; Her 6 grandchildren, Daniel (Gloria) Hernandez of Fort Worth, TX, Juan Silverio (Pilar) Hernandez of Denton, TX, Doralynn (Xavier) Moreno of Austin, TX, Enery (Francisco) Cantu-Mendoza of Harlingen, TX, Jay Dee Cantu of Brownsville, TX, and Erik Lee (Cassandra) Cantu of Brownsville, TX; 7 great grandchildren, Brandon Cantu, Makayla Mendoza, Alexa Mendoza, Ryan Cantu, Emily Hernandez, Valencia Hernandez, and Guillermo Hernandez; several nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Visitation will be held today Sunday, January 09, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito.
Visitations will resumed on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito and will continue from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., in Port Isabel, Texas.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery.
