Obituary of Bruce Anthony Schmitt

Bruce Anthony Schmitt entered into the Heavenly Kingdom of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 11, 2015. He was born in San Benito, Texas on November 30, 1955 to Alice Louise Kilgore and Thomas Francis Schmitt. He was the second of three children.
Bruce graduated from Marine Military Academy in 1975. On December 21, 1976. Bruce married the love of his life Karen Marie Abshire. They have two sons, Bruce Anthony Schmitt Jr. and Brandon Thomas Schmitt.
Bruce attended Texas A&M and while the family lived in Bryan/College Station, Bruce was employed at Brazos Valley Lumber/Hope Lumber where his love for the home building industry began. In 2001, he and his family returned to his hometown of Los Fresnos to run the family farm.
At the time of his death, Bruce was still operating the family farm and pursuing his passion for home building through his company, Copperfield Homes. He also served as a Cameron County Irrigation #6 board member for several years. Bruce loved to garden and enjoyed canning his vegetables. Bruce was a lifelong Aggie and his smile, his big heart, and his love for life will be missed by all. Bruce was proud of his family and always believed caring and putting family concerns and happiness a top priority.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. and Alice Louise Kilgore Schmitt; and wife, Karen Marie Schmitt.
Bruce is survived by his sons: Bruce Anthony (Adriana) Schmitt Jr. and his youngest son, Brandon Thomas Schmitt; his sister, Cindy (Jackie) Schmitt Poff; his brother, Wayne Schmitt; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family present at 6:00 p.m. to greet family and friends at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.
A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are: Bruce Schmitt Jr., Wayne Schmitt, Brenner Schmitt, David Young, Jackie Poff, Robbie Walsdorf, Gill Gomez, Gavin Wolff, Mike Kilgore, Roland Kilgore, and Jim Kilgore.
In lieu of flowers, the Schmitt family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Grace Point Fellowship Church in Harlingen. We wish to thank friends and family for their continued prayers and encouragement. We would like to thank Pastor Danny Rodriguez of Grace Point Fellowship in Harlingen for officiating services. Thanks to the doctors at Texas Oncology Harlingen and the doctors at MD Anderson in Houston, thanks to Mrs. Yolanda Riggins, thanks to the staff of Gentiva Hospice.
