As a child I remember traveling with our mother (Zoila Montalvo)To San Benito, Texas to visit her brothers /family. Back then there were plenty of cousins around the same age group to hang out, and they were all into baseball. The highlight of the trip for me was to go by Montalvo Lumber company and visit uncle Fred, Benny And Foster they always gave us from 10 -25 cents each just for coming by to say hello. Boy! back then that would pay for a movie, a hot dog, and a soft drink, or five RASPAS "snow cone" at Lola's candy store located downtown close to our grandparents house. By mowing the lawn for extra money at uncle Fred's house we would earn a dollar which made us rich back then. Not to mention the extra bonus aunt Lucy would give us by take all of us to the drive-in, including Martin, uncle Fred's right hand. Uncle Benny was always around making us laugh with his great sense of humor. Thank you uncle Benny for those wonderful memories. You will always be my number one uncle!

About 10 year ago my family and I had the privilege of meeting Benny at City Hall. He talked to us about the city and even posed for a picture with my family and I. I have fond memories of that day and treasure that picture. My deepest sympathies to the Montalvo family.

Mr. Montalvo was my Father's good friend, Harrel Hollon of Harrel Hollons Butane & Mobile Oil Agent in San Benito. My father was born in San Benito in 1904 and died in 1963. I appluded Mr. Montalvos life and all his children. Some of us used to play ball on the ball field accross from my house on 690 N. Bonham St. I pray all of you will go on with your lives as he would have wanted you too, and make him even prouder of you. He will be a shinning star for all of us to remember. You are all in my prayers.

For years, when I went early to Wall Mart, I would see a small dapper, man always dressed in a long sleeve shirt, necktie, and sweater or jacket, carrying a dark small case and wearing a baseball cap. We never spoke. I always wondered who he was and wondered about his life. He was always neat and clean. I missed seeing him. Recently I thought of him and wondered how and where he was. Today I opened the paper and realized this little man I saw so many times was your dear father, San Benito Montalvo. Please accept my sorrow in your lose. Sallie Lou Morris Nelson
