San Benito, TX- Virginia Sanchez Cervantes, our beloved "Ama" at her wonderful age of 98 years passed away September 23, 2010; she still crochet and loved to cook for her family. She stayed very active with her garden and made sure there were plenty of homemade tortillas for supper. She continually prayed for her family; Ama has left us with a lot of good memories and we will deeply miss her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Cervantes; her children, Lazaro and Guadalupe and oldest son, Jose Angel; and her daughter, Virginia "Virgie" Cervantes. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Petra Cantu, Oralia (Raul) Ortiz, Eusebio (Felipa) Cervantes, Minerva Cervantes and Hortencia Cervantes; her sons, Roberto (Margarita) Cervantes and Jose Jesus (Alejandra) Cervantes; sisters, Julia Vallejo, Felipa Atkinson and Juanita Pedraza; along with 16 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 12 Noon to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito. Interment followed to Mont Meta Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rudy Resendez, Robert Aguilera, T.J. Staples, Joe Luna, Tony Cuellar, Jr. and Trey Nino.
