Laguna Vista, Texas: Captain Matt "Eddie" Murphy, 68, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at his residence in Laguna Vista, TX. He is preceded in death by his father Matt Murphy in 1981 and his oldest son, Matt Edward Murphy Jr. in 1988. Born December 27, 1942 to Barbara and the late Matt Murphy, he graduated from Port Isabel High School in 1960 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was later honorably discharged on February 15, 1968. He returned to Port Isabel and took over the family business, Captain Murphy Charter Service in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Murphy; sons, Stephen and Patrick (Amanda) Murphy; his daughter, Colleen Murphy (Larry) Fenimore; his mother, Barbara E. Murphy; his sister, Myra McKamey; five granddaughters: Emmy, Brittany, Ashley, Emily, and Amber; three grandsons: Andrew, Isaac, and Toby; He is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, September 9, 2011 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with Mass of Resurrection to begin at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located on 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel. Cremation will follow in accordance to his wishes. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post # 498, V.F.W. Post #8791 of Port Isabel and V.F.W. Post #2035 under the directions of Commander Luis Lucio of Brownsville, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are Toby Deming, Joe Lee Bryant, Russell Robinson, Lawrence Fenimore, Kevin McKamey, Jeffery McKamey, Tom Hollingsworth, and Kurt Culverhouse.
