Los Fresnos/Houston, Texas WILMA ALICE NIXON was born June 22, 1914 in Pasadena, Texas and entered into rest on October 25, 2006 in Houston, Texas after a long illness.
She was preceded in peaceful ascension by her husband, George W. Nixon of Los Fresnos, Texas; her mother and father, John Thomas Wilson and Bertha Mae Wilson of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Johnie Jordon of Sour Lake, Texas and Berniece Marrs of Houston, Texas; one brother, William Wilson of Houston, Texas. She is survived by one sister, Hazel Atkinson of Houston, Texas; numerous brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Alice earned a Bachelors Degree from the University Of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas and a Masters Degree from the University of Houston. She is a life member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, a member of the San Benito Chapter Junior League where she was also a founding member of that chapter, and numerous other social organizations in the Rio Grande Valley including a long time member of the San Benito Porcelain Club. Alice began a long and successful teaching career at Ireck Elementary School near Floydada, Texas about 1938. She secured a teaching position with the Los Fresnos Independent School District about 1947 and continued with that district until her retirement. Since retirement she had remained active in social fraternal organizations until her long illness caused her to retire from such activity where she moved to the Houston area to be near family in 1999. Alice was a life long Baptist and regularly attended First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos until her move to Houston, Texas.
Visitations will be held on Monday, October 30, 2006 from 1:00p.m.- 3:00p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos, Texas. Her funeral service will begin at 3:00p.m. with Pastor Robert Cepeda officiating. Interment will follow to Mont-Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
