San Benito, TX- Toribio Cruz Cortez, 84, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at his residence in San Benito. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; and lived in San Benito most of his life where he worked in the farming industry. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Toribio is preceded in death by his parents, Modesto and Concepcion Cruz Cortez; a daughter, Connie Cortez-Cardinal; a sister, Guadalupe Bautista and a brother, Macario Cortez. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Cortez of San Benito; 4 daughters, Elva Cortez of Dallas, Sylvia (Tony) Barrera of Dallas, Daisy (Alfredo) Flores of San Benito and Cindy (Leonel) Cortez DeLeon of San Benito; 3 sons, Raul (Adela) Cortez of Dallas, Manuel (Velma) Reyes-Mercado of San Benito and Rudy Cortez of San Benito; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter; a sister, Maria Elena Ibarra; and 4 brothers, Inez Cortez, Jose Cortez, Domingo Cortez and Epifanio Cortez. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 2:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow to San Benito City Cemetery.
