Port Isabel, TX- Rita Lopez Tamayo, 83, lifelong resident of Port Isabel, Texas was lead to the gates of heaven by the Lord, on Friday, May 28, 2010.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Yndalecio Lopez and Maria Isabel De la Garza; her loving husband, Juan B. Tamayo; youngest son, Juan Tamayo; eldest son, Indalecio "Dale" Tamayo; and a younger sister, Casilda Gonzalez.
She is survived by her youngest son, Tomas (Lorena) Tamayo; daughter-in-law, Maria Thelma Tamayo (widow of Indalecio); 2 sisters, Maria (Ken) Helmke and Josepha (Mares) Martinez; 3 brothers, Victor (Celia) Bulerez, Guadalupe (Mary) de la Garza and Jose (Janie) de la Garza; her grandchildren, Juan Indalecio (Melissa) Tamayo, Abran Antonio (Sandra) Tamayo, Adrian Vicente (Celeste) Tamayo, Rita Virginia (Gustavo) Tamayo-Martinez, Rita Guadalupe Tamayo, Tomas Tamayo, Jr., Juana Bianay Tamayo, Juan Jesus Tamayo, Amalia (Craig) Higgason, Elvira (Shay) Fulton, Marcelina Tamayo and Jasmin Tamayo; 18 great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rita, homemaker and housewife, was known throughout Port Isabel as the best seamstress in town. Many young ladies knew that if they needed a wedding dress, debut, prom or party dress, Rita was called upon for the best results. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew her and loved her; Rita remains in the hearts of her family and friends forever; she was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Port Isabel, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2010 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel.
Visitation will continue on Monday, May 31, 2010 from 12 Noon to 2:00 P.M. with the Mass of Resurrection to begin at 2:00 P.M. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Gerry Barrett officiating. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Andy Gonzalez, Antonio Gonzalez, Jr., Morris Martinez, Eduardo Martinez, Armando Martinez, Casimiro Martinez, Jr., Alberto Barbarena III and Gualberto Gonzalez, Jr.
