Charlotte May Sherwood Deckard, 77 of Port Isabel was born on May 4, 1932 in Elgin, Illinois the seventh child of eight children born to Charles Henry Sherwood and Myrtle Alice Bump Sherwood. She departed this life on Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 after a long illness. On February 5, 1950 she married Jerry Lee Deckard in St. Louis, Missouri; seven children were born to this union. She was a mother and homemaker her entire life. The family moved into the Port Isabel area in the fall of 1965. She was married for nearly 59 years when her dearly loved husband, Jerry, passed away on January 16th, 2009. She continued to live in the home they shared until her recent illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Henry and Myrtle Alice Sherwood; her brothers, Charles Henry Jr, Robert Joseph, Walter Daniel, and Ralph Lynn; her sisters Marion Maude, and Alice M. Walker Hartshorne; and great grandsons Brandon David Martinez and Christopher Shawn Baltazar; and her beloved husband, Jerry Lee Deckard. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters Carol Ann Denman (Kenneth) of Marysville, Ohio; Terry Jean Alberts (Clarence) of San Antonio, Texas; and Brenda Jo (Eddie) Villarreal of Port Isabel; and her sons Michael Lee Deckard (Belinda) of Fountain, Colorado; Thomas Ray Deckard (Rosa) of Los Fresnos, Texas; Russell Lynn Deckard of Anchorage, Alaska; and James Frank Deckard (Susanna) of Port Isabel, Texas. And left to mourn her passing is her brother John Wesley Sherwood (Kay) of Vero Beach, Florida. Also mourning her passing are 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 20, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Funeral Services will be held on Monday December 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito with Son-in-Law Clarence Alberts officiating and Pastor Steven Hyde performing the eulogy. Interment will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito. Pallbearers will be , Placido Martinez III, Clarence Alberts II, Eddie Villarreal II, Thomas Deckard II, William Deckard, Laurence Alberts, and James Deckard, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Russell Deckard, Jr., Kyle David Deckard, Richard Deckard, Joshua Alberts, Dolores Deckard, Edward P. Martinez, and Terra Lovins. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the many expressions of concern and condolences shown during the lengthy illness of our mother, Charlotte Deckard and during our time of bereavement.
