It is with deepest sympathies that I share the feelings of losing a great aunt with whom I shared many childhood memories. My "Aunt Fela" or "Tia Fela" as she was known was a presence in our household. My mother, Consuelo Valle Martinez, was always cognizant of Tia Fela. While Ma was busy in her beauty shop, she would send me off to help Tia Fela run errands. Of course, I was always treated with a Diary Queen ice cream cone afterwards! My great aunt was a local figure heavily involved in politics and philanthropy through St. Theresa Catholic church. Her spirit for community and helping nature never waivered. I know that God will find a place for my Great Aunt Felicidad Rodriguez, for she inspired many people and was truly one of a kind. She taught me two things: a woman can do anything she puts her mind to and to give your time to help those in need. Thank you Aunt Fela, even though you didn't know it, your strength and determination inspired me and continues to do so.
