Port Isabel, TX. - Rosa Eva Trevino Garcia Canada, 84, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 14, 2009 in Harlingen, TX at the Solara Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Rosa was born in Port Isabel, TX on November 21, 1924. She was a graduate of Port Isabel High School, and then attended a business college. She was very involved in her community. She was the Tax Assessor - Collector for the Port Isabel School District, director of the Port Isabel Head Start, and board member of the Laguna Madre Boys and Girls Club. She was very active in the political aspects of the community and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She retired from the Port Isabel Head Start and traveled up and down the Texas coast with her husband Raymond Chester. They were the owners of the bay boat "Rosita". Her passion was spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. Her favorite holiday was Easter, where they would go camping. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus Roberto and Sara Trevino Garcia; her son, Jesus Omar Torres Sr.; and a brother, Robert T. Garcia Sr. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Chester Canada; her sons, Baldemar Torres Jr. and Homero Arturo (Rosario) Torres; her daughter, Francisca Judith (Aaron) Torres - Moore; a daughter in law, Lydia Quintanilla Torres; a sister in law, Magdalena Garcia; 14 grandchildren; 11 great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel. A Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Aaron Sidney Moore, Ross Elliot Moore, John Edward Moore, Baldemar Torres III, Homero Torres Jr., Rueben Torres, Amador Torres, Jesus Omar Torres Jr., and Angel Jacinto Torres.
