Jose Leal Serrata, Jr, 76, of Los Fresnos, Texas passed away in the loving embrace of his family and in the loving peace of Jesus Christ at his residence early in the morning of June 7, 2007. Mr. Serrata was born on March 15, 1931 in Brownsville, Texas and has been a resident of the Los Fresnos community since 1976. He married his beautiful wife Odelia De Los Santos Serrata on June 21, 1953 in San Benito, Texas and had been employed with the Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District for 15 years as a school bus driver. Mr. Serrata was a proud member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and prior to relocating to Los Fresnos in 1976 he was previously employed with the Brownsville I.S.D. also as a school bus driver with 15 years of experience under his belt. Survivors include his wife, Odelia D. Serrata; three daughters, Celeste S. (Jose) Ortega and Carmen S. (Gilbert) Lopez both of Los Fresnos, Texas and Alma S. (Jesus) Fayett of Brownsville, Texas; two sons, Joe (Betty) Serrata, III and Pete (Debbie) Serrata both of Los Fresnos, Texas; 4 granddaughters, Eunezka Vera, Sasha (Juan) Sotelo, Sicilly Fayett, and Melissa Serrata; 5 grandsons, Joe (Erika) Garza, Joey Vera, Pete Serrata, Jr., D'Jesus Fayett, and Joe Serrata, IV; 1 great grandson, Jose Miguel Garza and 1 great granddaughter, Salma Sophia Sotelo. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jose (Mikey) Garza on July 18, 2004 and by his brother, Felipe L. Serrata on June 22, 2004; his father, Jose C. Serrata in 1965 and his mother, Librada L. Serrata in 1966. Serving as his pallbearers will be Jose Ortega, Gilbert Lopez, Jesus Fayett, D'Jesus Fayett, Joe Serrata IV, Juan Sotelo, Joe Garza, Joey Vera and Pete Serrata, Jr. Visitation will begin on Friday, June 8, 2007 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. and his funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas.
