Our dearly beloved mother, Maria Flores Zamora, made her passage to eternal life surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 26, 2009. She was 88 years old. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on February 10, 1921, an only child to the late Rita De La Portilla Salinas and Locadio Flores. In 1936 she married our father, Raul Silva Zamora and made their home in Port Isabel, Texas, where they raised their family. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Port Isabel. Her husband, Raul S. Zamora preceded her in death in 1992; Her infant son, Everardo Zamora; A Great Grandson, Jude Compean; and Her Son In Law, Rafael M. Mata in 2008, her brother in law, Ricardo Zamora; two sisters in law, Antonia Zamora Portugal and Tomasa Zamora Fernandez. She is survived by her children, who she is loved unconditionally, Jesusa Compean (Jesus), Raul Zamora, Jr., Mary Lou Almazan (Santiago), Dora Mata, Juan Jose (J.J.) Zamora, Sr. (Bertha), Rosa Chavez (Jesse), Blanca Garcia (Alberto), Esther Castaneda (Rolando), Linda Rendon (Luis), Horacio Zamora (Eva) and Sandra Zayas (Richard). She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 37great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends who she dearly loved. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 28, 2009, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, Texas. The Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Gerry Barrett officiating. Burial will follow to the Port Isabel City Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are her grandsons Felipe Zamora, Joaquin Carlos Zamora, David Zamora, Edward Chavez, Moises Almazan, and Rolando Castaneda, Jr., Billy Holland and Lawrence Galvan. The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Lorenzo Pelly for providing our mother the ultimate care as she made her passage to heaven. He never left her beside, and for that we are eternally grateful. We would also like to thank all of the doctors that provided for our mother during her last years of her life, especially Dr. Ahmad Karkoutly, Dr. Jairo Rodriguez, Dr. Ammar Halloum, and the doctors at the Heart Institute. We also thank the nurses and staff at the Valley Baptist Medical Center for the professional care given to our mother. You provided our mother the medical attention and love which gave her dignity and peace during her last days with her children.
