San Benito, TX - Dionicio Perez Garcia, Jr. 76, who was born on January 9, 1933 in El Venadito, TX, passed away January 17, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.
Mr. Garcia was a veteran who honorably served in the U.S.Army and was active in the Korean War during January 6, 1953 to December 3, 1954. Nicho was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle; he enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, and cooking; he was a man of all trades and was a great person and enjoyed helping everyone. He will be dearly missed by all his family, friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dionicio P. Garcia and Triadad Garcia; brothers, Faustino Garcia of Rio Bravo, Tamps., Mexico; Julio Garcia of Muleshoe, TX; sisters, Guadalupe Morales of Santa Maria, TX; Triadad Garcia of San Benito; and son-in-law, James Michael Herbenar of Rancho Viejo.
Dionicio is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Guadalupe V. Garcia; his daughters, Nora G. Herbenar of Rancho Viejo and Gracie (John) Temple of Harlingen; his sons, Dionicio Garcia, Jr., Alan (Maribel) Garcia and Roberto Aguilar all of San Benito, and Juan Manuel Vega of Harlingen; his grandchildren, Maricellia Garcia and Alan Garcia, Jr. both of San Benito; his sisters, Leandra (Samuel) Koite of College Station; Angelita (Pedro) Leija of La Feria; and Flora Cavazos of San Benito; nieces, Dolores (Daniel) Gonzales and Dora (Manuel) Garza both of Santa Rosa; and Augustina Cervantes of San Benito; and nephews, Smitty (Fela) Weaver of Austin; Pedro Castillo of Houston; and Leo Castillo of Harlingen.
Visitations will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors in San Benito.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Las Rucias Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by graveside by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Longoria, Pedro Aguilar, Roberto Rocha, Rolando Martinez, Leonel Leija and Fred Cavazos.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Dionicio Garcia, Jr. to the American Heart Association Memorial and Tribute Processing Center, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125.
