Port Isabel, TX - Pedro M. Nunez, 60, of Port Isabel, TX passed away Friday, January 2, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Mr. Nunez is preceded in death by his son, Cesario A Nunez (1/4/08); his father, Sesario Nunez; and 2 brothers, Rosendo Nunez and Jesus Nunez Pedro is survived by his loving wife, Epifania A. Nunez of Port Isabel; 3 sons, Pete (Angie) Nunez, Jr., Jesus (Nancy) Nunez and Exiquio (Yvette) Nunez; a daughter, Maria Luisa (Rafael Rodriguez) Nunez; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Reymunda M. Nunez; 3 brothers, Cayetano Nunez, Reymundo Nunez and Guadalupe (Connie) Nunez; and a sister, Ciperiana (Juan) Alvarez. Pedro was a Vietnam Veteran under 1st Marine Division and was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Marines; He was a recipient of the Navy Cross, Purple Heart, Silver Star and several other medals "Semper Fi"; He was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and a member of Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel; he worked for the City of Port Isabel as a police officer in the 70's and served as Chief of Police for 7 years and retired in the early 1980's. Visitations will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service. Interment will follow to Las Yescas Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members. Full Military Honors will be conducted at graveside by American Legion Post 205 and VFW Post 2410 of Harlingen and San Benito, TX; American Legion Post 498 and V.F.W.
