Obituary of Carrie Lancaster Varnam

Laguna Vista, TX - Carrie Nancy Lancaster Varnam, 95, of Laguna Vista passed away at 9:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen after a brief illness.
Carrie Nancy Lancaster was born in Supply, North Carolina on May 5, 1913 to Julia Singletary Lancaster and William Lovin Lancaster. She married Eunice Lee Varnam on May 13, 1934. They moved with their six children to Port Isabel in 1949 as part of the Twin City Fisherman's Co-op., where together they built a successful business in the commercial shrimping business, Varnam Marine, Inc. She was witness to the beginning and end of an era in Port Isabel.
Mrs. Varnam is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Lee Varnam (Leo) Sanders, Daisy Ann Varnam (Robert) McNeely and Rosemary Varnam; two of her three sons, Robert Allison (Gaylene) Varnam and Edward Lancaster (Mari) Varnam; daughter-in-law, Mary Silguero Varnam; and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Varnam Battone and Ophelia Varnam; and brother-in-law, Bennie Allison Varnam.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Eunice Lee Varnam; a son, Charles William Varnam; a grandson, James Varnam Jackson; her brother, Wilson Lancaster; her sister, Ada Lancaster Varnam; daughter-in-law, Sue Cornes Varnam; son-in-law, James l. Jackson; and a nephew, James Wilson Varnam.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church in Port Isabel. Interment followed to Port Isabel City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Allison Varnam, Edward Lancaster Varnam, Robert Allison Varnam, Jr., Leo Travis Sanders, Christopher Lee Sanders and Jacques William Lancaster Guillot. Honorary pallbearers were Leo Floyd Sanders,Rober McNeely, Charles William Varnam, Jr., Leif Ericson Varnam, Adam Cole Hartmann, Charles Lincoln Sanders, Robert Lancaster Sanders, Sebastian Charles Varnam, Brandon Varnam, Hunter Michael Mouton, Ashton Mouton and Logan Paul Benson.
Ms. Varnam was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Isabel for 60 years; mourners may make donations to the First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund in her memory.
