Refugia "Cuca" Tamayo of Port Isabel, Texas passed away on January 01, 2011 at Ebony Lake Nursing Home in Brownsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio Tamayo (1957) and Martina Pena Tamayo (1968); Brother, Gregorio Tamayo Jr.; Sister, Maria A. "Chena" Tamayo (May 14, 2007). Cuca was born on December 23, 1923 in Port Isabel, Texas. Her family was one of the first pioneer families of Port Isabel. Cuca was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and a lifetime resident of Port Isabel. She survived by her God Son, Carlos (Angelina) Gonzalez of Port Isabel; several nephews and nieces and other relatives. Visitation will be held today Wednesday January 05, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito and will continue from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., in Port Isabel, Texas. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 06, 2011 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel with Father Gerry Barrett officiating. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery.
